On Tuesday, 30 June 2026, at 13:30-15:30 CEST, the GEF-FARM Programme, in partnership with CABI and PAN UK, will host a webinar to share experiences and best practices in addressing key gaps in regulatory frameworks for pesticide reduction and management.

Efforts to reduce or eliminate Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs) have gained increasing attention in global policy discussions, but the reality on the ground is often far more complex. In many countries, regulators and other stakeholders are navigating difficult trade-offs between protecting human health and the environment, maintaining agricultural productivity, and ensuring that farmers have access to practical and affordable alternatives. While policies and international commitments to phase out HHPs are advancing, implementation frequently lags due to limited regulatory capacity, uneven enforcement, market pressures, and gaps in locally relevant evidence on what works in practice. At the same time, governments are facing growing expectations from export markets, sustainability agendas, and national stakeholders to demonstrate progress in reducing pesticide risks.

This webinar provides an opportunity to discuss the challenges policymakers face in implementing HHP reduction strategies, drawing on real-world experiences from different countries around the world. It will provide a space to reflect on what is working, where the key policy gaps remain, and what practical steps different actors can take to support more realistic and sustainable pathways away from HHP reliance, including through the exchange of lessons learned from various national experiences.

The session will also draw on findings from a recent scoping study that examined national policies, procedures and initiatives in various countries for reducing and managing the use of harmful pesticides in agricultural production and encouraging the adoption of low- and non-chemical alternatives.

Hosted under the FARM Knowledge Series, the webinar will bring together national regulators, governmental partners, international organisations and other relevant stakeholders to discuss common gaps in pesticide regulatory frameworks and practical approaches to addressing them.

The session will be virtual, lasting approximately 90 minutes, with an optional additional 30-minute moderated Q&A for those who wish to explore further questions and reflections with the panel of experts.
