On 14 September 2023 (10:00-11:00 CEST), the Green Finance Platform of the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is hosting a webinar on pathways to integrate social elements into the financial decision-making process, and achieving impact for firms, societies and the financial system.

As markets and financial systems embrace environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, institutions face challenges in mobilizing efforts and measuring impact of their practices on workers, communities and society. From diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) to labour and human rights, social elements across value chains provide opportunities for institutions aspiring for leadership in the sustainability transition. They also present challenges in translating social results into lasting impact on a safe, healthy and sustainable environment, as well as green and just transitions.

The financial sector is both a driver and the beneficiary of the sustainability transition and plays a significant role in fostering the integration of social considerations into markets and financial systems. Embracing social considerations can help better identify risks and opportunities and contribute to a stronger and more resilient financial market. Investor and consumer demand for accountability and transparency on social issues is also rising with heightened societal expectations.

Discussion questions include:

  • What are key social considerations for financial decisions, and how do we measure and report on social impact?
  • How does social impact contribute to healthier bottom lines, economic markets and financial systems?
  • How do we create enabling environments for financial institutions to integrate social considerations into their practices?
