About this Group

The UNIDO Industry Working Group (IWG) was launched in 2019 to develop a stronger and more collective engagement with industry, supported by enhanced collaboration with policy-makers and supporting organisations, to increase wide-spread implementation of energy efficiency and decarbonisation actions to achieve the target of net-zero GHG emissions by 2050, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Objectives

The UNIDO Industry Working Group (IWG) is a global initiative with the objective to:

  • Increase widespread implementation of energy efficiency and other low-carbon measures by industrial corporations and relevant partners through a business case approach.
  • Channel inputs and perspectives of global industrial energy end-users to policy-makers for the development of transformative policies and programmes.

Structure

The IWG through a business-to-business approach, provides a platform that brings together :

  • Industry stakeholders: global, regional and national industrial corporations that can both represent and influence large portions of the industry sector’s energy end-use through their own operations and that of their supply chain.
  • Non-industry stakeholders: policy-makers, international organisations, non-profits, NGO’s, industry associations, research and financial institutions providing support to industry through their energy efficiency and low carbon programmes

The Special Working Groups (SWG) enable both industry and other relevant stakeholders sharing the same interest to actively advance progress in a specific topic related to energy efficiency and decarbonisation, with the coordinationsupport of UNIDO.
