This discussion guide outlines the main questions to be discussed during the fifth Chemicals and Waste Management CoP discussion, Developing a Gender Action Plan in the Global Framework on Chemicals.

In September 2023, the 5th International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM5) in Bonn, Germany, set a new course in global chemical management with the adoption of the Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC). This milestone included a strong emphasis on gender equality, including the resolution for “Mainstreaming a Gender Perspective and Promoting Gender Equality and Empowerment of All Women and Girls in Chemicals and Waste Management.” This work has now paved the way for a collaborative gender action plan, focusing on inclusive participation and gender-responsive policies in the chemical sector.

Our upcoming community of practice discussion aims to further this momentum by focusing on sharing case studies and practical experiences in integrating gender considerations into chemical management. Participants from various stakeholder groups will come together to exchange insights and strategies and explore effective methods for advancing gender mainstreaming for a more inclusive and gender-responsive framework in chemical management.
