Developed jointly by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and UPM Umwelt-Projekt-Management GmbH, this Training of Trainers (ToT) program aims to enhance understanding of climate-resilient opportunities in the sanitation sector and promote citywide inclusive sanitation (CWIS) principles in Africa. The training underscores the relevance and urgency of integrating climate action into sanitation planning and implementation.
Module 2 - Climate-SMART Sanitation: Site Visit
This material guides trainers to observe, analyse, and document real-world sanitation systems through the lens of the Climate-SMART approach. Participants are encouraged to use the provided handout to structure their observations and:
Gather data and visual evidence (notes and photos, if permitted).
Answer guiding questions across all sections to evaluate climate-relevant features.
Reflect on how Climate-SMART principles — safety, mitigation, adaptation, resilience, and transformation — are applied in practice.
Findings from the field exercise may be used during further group discussions and applied exercises that build participants’ capacity to identify and promote climate-resilient, inclusive sanitation solutions.
