The Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is a global community of policy, business, and finance professionals and organisations committed to collaboratively generating, managing, and sharing knowledge on the transition to an inclusive green economy. In addition to supporting best practice knowledge through its three core platforms, the Green Policy Platform, Green Industry Platform and Green Finance Platform, the GGKP also provides knowledge management and related support for projects under the Global Environment Facility (GEF) initiative

The programme, “Financing Agrochemical Reduction and Management (FARM) is a new GEF funded programme that aims to strengthen the sound management of agricultural chemicals and their waste, through better control, and reduction and / or elimination.

The FARM programme is being implemented by UNEP with GGKP as an executing agency for the Global Child Project. The role of the Global Project is to coordinate the efforts of 7 country level child projects in Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America, promote knowledge generation and sharing, and lead engagement with international stakeholders.

A consultant is sought to support the GGKP in the execution of the Global Child Project, and specifically to manage and coordinate the project’s activities.

Responsibilities within this role include:

  • Manage overall implementation of the Global Child Project activities and ensure their timely and efficient delivery according to the project document and work plan;
  • Monitor the budget according to the budget and co-finance plans, and liaise with the Project Steering Committee on budgetary changes if required;
  • Development, monitoring and delivery of annual procurement plans;
  • Provide expert subject matter guidance to the development of the FARM Stakeholder Engagement Strategy, Knowledge Management Strategy, Communication Strategy, Gender Action Plan, and Policy and Enforcement Engagement Strategy, and other relevant strategies, and oversee their subsequent execution;
  • Oversee the finalisation and dissemination of the FARM Programme visibility guideline;
  • Coordinate with GEF Secretariat, Implementing Agencies, as well as relevant GEF programmes;
  • Organise and provide secretariat function for the FARM Programme Coordination Group meetings and Global Child Project Steering Committee meetings;
  • Develop detailed ToRs for the recruitment of consultants to deliver specific deliverables according to the work plan;
  • Lead the preparation, review and submission of Executing Agency progress reports including quarterly and annual progress reports to the Implementing Agency, contribute to mid-term and terminal reviews;
  • Design the programmatic Child Project reporting format and provide technical advice to Child Projects on reporting to the Global Child Project;
  • Track progress of the FARM programme against GEF Core Indicators and produce quarterly and annual FARM Programme Progress reports, including getting inputs from Child Projects and compiling results;
  • Organise and lead expert subject matter consultations with stakeholders;

Required education: Master’s or higher degree in environmental, agricultural or development economics, agronomy, environmental management, chemicals management, or a related field is required. A combination of a first university degree (bachelor’s or equivalent) with an additional 2 years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the education requirements outlined above.

Required working experience: A minimum of 7 years of accumulated work experience in project management or coordination in an international organisation or public institution, preferably with GEF funded projects. This should include in-depth knowledge of chemicals and waste and strong experience of implementing and executing similar investment, finance, policy and/or private sector programmes, preferably relevant to the agricultural sector;

Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
