The BCRC-Caribbean executed a seven (7) year regional project entitled “GEF 5558: Development and Implementation of a Sustainable Management Mechanism for POPs in Eight (8) Caribbean Countries”. The project was funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented through the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). During its execution, activities under the GEF 5558 Project facilitated improvements for creating an enabling environment in the participating Caribbean countries to reduce or eliminate the threat of POPs.

During the execution of the project, capacity building and training activities played a key role in enhancing the knowledge on the implementation of the Stockholm Convention and management of POPs in the Caribbean. Overall information exchange, knowledge transfer and technical assistance to the beneficiary countries has been critical for mitigating the effects of POPs on human health and the environment, while raising the awareness of key national and regional public and private stakeholders.

Further to the project outputs and recognising the human and institutional challenges faced in the region with the implementation of the Stockholm Convention, the BCRC-Caribbean seeks to develop a massive open online course (MOOC) to support learning about the Stockholm Convention, its provisions and the environmentally sound management of POPs, using case studies from the Caribbean region.

The overall objective of the MOOC is to provide effective knowledge transfer to stakeholders involved and/or with interest in the implementation of the Stockholm Convention (e.g., government, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, and students) in the following key areas.

In this regard, the BCRC-Caribbean is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced consultant team or consulting firm to provide key services as it relates to the design, development, and implementation of a MOOC on the Stockholm Convention and Caribbean POPs Management.
