India’s chemical industry has experienced significant growth and development over the years. It has emerged as a key sector contributing to a country's economic growth and industrial development. With a diverse range of products, including petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, and specialty chemicals, several factors have contributed to the growth of the Indian chemical industry, such as favorable government policies, rising domestic demand, global competitiveness, abundant raw materials, skilled workforce, focus on R&D, and export potential. Despite these positive factors, the Indian chemical industry faces challenges, such as environmental concerns, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure limitations. However, with continued support from the government, industry collaboration, and investments in sustainable practices, the Indian chemical industry is poised for further growth and can become a global leader in the future. This webinar provides a concise overview of the Indian chemicals industry, highlighting its key players, market trends, and growth opportunities. As CSIR-NEERI is engaged in the updation of the National Implementation Plan on persistent organic pollutants (POPs), it is important to understand the production and use of some POPs, such as brominated flame retardants, perfluoroalkyl substances and chlorinated paraffins.  As Chemical Industry is one of the major stakeholder in the implementation of Stockholm and Basel Conventions, it is essential to understand Industry perspectives on alternatives and possible socio-economic implications.
