ISLANDS Forum 2025

12 MAY 2025 - 13 MAY 2025
Geneva

From Challenges to Solutions: Advancing Sound Management of Chemical and Waste in SIDS

ISLANDS Forum is the first in-person meeting of the participating Small Island Developing Countries (SIDS) since the project launch. The two-day event will explore SIDS' unique challenges in hazardous chemicals and waste management.

The Forum is held back-to-back with the conferences of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions and marks the approximate midpoint of the programme.

? Day one of the Forum will host the annual ISLANDS Programme Coordination Group (PCG) Meeting and establish a Project Steering Committee (PSC) for the Global Child Project, as recommended in the project’s Mid-Term Review. It will also open space for relationship building between participating SIDS and provide opportunities for informal group and bilateral conversations.

? Day two will showcase specific case studies on technical and policy solutions, private sector engagement and sustainable financing, followed up with breakout sessions on their potential replication in other SIDS and relevant solutions from participating countries. A high-level panel discussion will close out the forum, featuring voices from academia, the private sector, UNEP, the GEF and implementing partners.

?The high-level panel discussion will be broadcast and recorded. The link to the broadcast will be available in the ISLANDS Group, 13 May, 16:30-18:00 (CEST)
