The Role of SMEs in Transforming Agri-Food Systems

Group 90 members
About this Group

Food systems are central to the 2030 agenda, crossing over most SDG and allowing bottom-up action. Effective changes are needed to ensure the availability of sustainable and nutritious food for all, a task that is complicated by the close interdependency between food safety, nutrient security, climate change, biodiversity protection and social and economic determinants.

Changing the food systems involves stimulating business ambition in meeting targets as well as assisting the transition to a circular economic model, by the SME of the agri-food sector, in a feasible and inclusive manner.

The group aims at promoting effective transformation in the food systems by engaging different actors from the agri-food sector (academia, start-ups, familiar businesses, decision-makers, etc.) to:

  • Promoting networking;
  • Sharing evidence-based information and curated data;
  • Discussing innovation options (from game-changing innovations to incremental and frugal improvements);
  • Highlighting examples of good practices.

This group will focus on changes at the food production level.
