The Stockholm Convention (SC) on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) is a global treaty to protect human health and the environment from POPs, chemicals that can be transported over great distances, persist in the environment, accumulate in the fatty tissue of humans and wildlife, and have harmful impacts on human health and the environment. The Convention entered into force in 2004 and requires its Parties to take measures to eliminate or reduce the release of POPs into the environment. Parties are also required to develop a National Implementation Plan (NIP) to demonstrate how the country will implement its obligations under the SC, and to review and update their NIPs, as appropriate, periodically and to address new obligations under the Convention.

The project titled “Global Development, Review and Update of the National Implementation Plans under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)” was developed to facilitate the implementation of the SC in 21 countries through the review and update of their NIPs. Two (2) of the project countries include The Bahamas and Dominica located in the Caribbean.

The BCRC-Caribbean is supporting The Bahamas and Dominica with the execution of the national component of the abovementioned project. As such, the BCRC-Caribbean is seeking to engage a suitably qualified individual consultant as a NIP Update Expert to provide technical support, guidance and training to the National Project Teams for The Bahamas and Dominica and to also provide guidance and training to local stakeholders throughout the project.
