Description

My name is  Claudia Moray. I am a proud Argentinian.

I have dedicated myself to the environment, sustainability, and climate change after being inspired by my birthplace. Being born and raised in Misiones, part of the Paranaense Forest, I witnessed the deforestation of the Iguazú Jungle, one of the top 10 most threatened forest hotspots in the world. Deforestation affects wild animals, plants and humans in many ways.

Despite being born there, I was able to realize my dream of obtaining a quality higher education, I am Lawyer and Architect with honors degrees. I have pursued post-graduate studies on Environmental Law, Court Mediation, Judicial Function, Bachelor Degree in Smart Cities (Vienna, Berlin, Tallinn and Curitiba), Bachelor Degree in the "Laudato Si" Encyclical, Bachelor Degree in Sustainable Development Goals and MBA (Master of Business Administration).

I have published and lectured widely on the subject of humans rights, environment and climate change, nationally and internationally.

I was nominated by Argentina  to attend UNFCCC, United Nations Climate Change Conference, the meeting sessions COP 21 (Paris - 2015 ), COP 22 (Marrakech - 2016), COP 23  (Bonn - 2017), COP 24 (Katowice - 2018) and COP 25 (Madrid - 2019) and COP 26 (Glasgow - 2021).

Passionate about environmental justice and dedicated to empower people to lead change in their communities, I have worked for many years in humanitarian field. The first 20 years by myself in the Misiones jungle, and later through alliances with NGOs, such as "Humanitarian Assistance" in the subtropical forest call “Impenetrable Chaqueño”, and more recently in Europe (Inuits and Sami), in Africa (Malagasy, Rwandan, Ugandan, Masai and Turkana) and Asia (Akha, Padaung, Yao and Adivasis).

I have seen how vulnerable they are because climate change is a multiplier of negative externalities; it interacts with other biophysical stress factors (loss of biodiversity, water pollution, landfills, etc.) and with social stress factors (inequality, discrimination, poverty , etc.). So "the existing problems are worse." The ethical question, then, of how to respond to climate change, is an aspect of treatment that cannot be postponed.

I am currently working with local communities and indigenous peoples in a pilot project to recover the Iguazú Jungle with solutions based on nature, taking advantage of their ancestral knowledge. Planet is on fire and the survival of indigenous peoples depends on the natural resources of their environment. They lack resources and have a low level of influence and political organization. They are also indirectly affected when society stops pursuing sustainable human development as a goal.

I am an university professor of "Environmental Law and Human Rights". I consider education and information to be key to raising awareness; since the probabilities of success in facing the climate crisis depend on the commitment and participation of the entire society.  Climate change is here. As its impact intensifies over time, it is the children and young people of today who will face the worst effects. I am committed to helping young people take action to protect the future of our planet. I do this by raising youth voices and by increasing youth participation to address climate change  working together with them in the organization of a World Congress of Youth for the Sustainable Development Goals. It will be in the Province of Santiago del Estero at the Technological Node next August 13. The place has 15 thousand square meters, the main room has 8 thousand m2 with capacity for 25 thousand people (same as the COP).

My professional experience includes managerial and leadership positions.

I served as senior adviser to The House of Representatives of Argentina  and the Chamber of Senators of the Province of Buenos Aires.

I collaborate with NGOs, especially with the Morón Medical Foundation and Red Jaguareté.

I have my own community dining room open to anyone in need of a meal. It is named "Mr Alciro" in honor’s to my father. In an average day, we provide up to 45 meals to the community, contributing nourishment and fellowship to people whose lives often lack both of these needs. volunteers make this process possible.

This year I was named Ambassador of Peace for a Thousand Millennia of Peace.
