Financing Smallholder Transitions to Healthier Agricultural Practices

This session will highlight practical pathways for farmers to secure financial support for transitioning to safer, low-input agriculture. The use of harmful pesticides and agricultural plastics damages human health and ecosystems. However, many farmers, particularly smallholders, struggle to access the financial resources required to adopt safer, more innovative alternatives.
This webinar will:
- Highlight financing mechanisms that can support smallholder farmers in adopting safer alternatives to agrochemicals and agricultural plastics.
- Discuss the barriers to accessing finance and identify the key features of the effective, inclusive financial schemes accessible for farmers.
Hosted by the GEF FARM Programme, the webinar will bring together global experts and partners of the FARM Ecuador project implemented by UNDP.
This webinar is part of the FARM Knowledge Series Financing healthier and safer agrifood systems. The online and in-person events will enhance the technical capacity of the financial community and other agrifood stakeholders to redirect public and private finance, policies, and practices towards safer, sustainable agriculture.
The Financing Agrochemical Reduction and Management (FARM) programme, funded by GEF and led by UNEP, aims to reduce the use of harmful pesticides and plastics in agriculture by shifting policies, practices and investments towards sustainable solutions that safeguard ecosystems, human health, and ensure food security.
