Good day to all.

We have recently commenced the utilization of waste oil as a fuel in Trinidad on a trial basis approved by our Environmental Management Authority. The appetite for this venture is 5 million gallons per year. Consequentially, we would like to begin discussions to offer this end use to anyone, anywhere who has used oil disposal needs. We visualize the creation of a regional solution.

I can be contacted easily via WhatsApp @ 1 868 332 0138 or by email @ [email protected].

Hello Used Oil Community!

I am sharing here an article that provides some interesting information on used oil management activities in the Pacific. For those of you who attended the webinar, it is an insightful background story on what Julie Pillet shared - in fact she was also involved in this work!

The article is a bit old, but I think some of the questions are still relevant today, for example the opportunity of setting up a sustainable financing scheme or a regional recovery mechanism for hazardous waste.

What are procedures for used oil management in your country? Is there any sustainable financing scheme in place?

Please share your experiences in the comments below!

Good day to all. Our company is in the process of finalizing an agreement to supply a local plant (in Trinidad) with Used Oils to be utilized as fuel for their system. The initial agreement is to supply 1,500,000 gallons per year which is as much as we believe can be acquired here. Their optimum intake is 5,500,000 Gallons per year which easily lends to the idea of a regional collection for this initiative. We are already actively engaged in marine and land based oil collection and are interested in discussions with stakeholders of other Caribbean islands as it pertains to their participation in this environmentally friendly solution to our used hydrocarbon disposal needs. This project can later be developed to utilize pyrolysis oils derived from tires and plastics. We look forward to hearing from any interested parties.

Warmest regards to all.

There are so many harmful things that leak out of our daily-lives products when we think we are finished with them, which then cause harm to the environment. Motor oil, industrial oil and cooking oil not the least of them. Interesting Summary Booklet on Used Oil Management in the Pacific published by SPREP last year in addition to the report Julie mentioned below.
The ISLANDS Programme is also working with SPREP (and other agencies around the world) on projects to manage and recycle used oils in SIDS.

Talofa,
Given the damage that poor used oil management can cause to both the community and the surrounding environment, it is vital that best practices are put into place to ensure effective treatment whilst reducing dependence on overseas exporting.
Research on Used Oil Processing Technologies, carried out by MRA Consulting under the direction of the SWAP Project, has been written to assist small island nations in the Pacific region to select technology options for the management of used oil. This report highlights the importance of effective used oil management and provides an overview of options to assist member countries to choose the most suitable technology for their country: Four ideal used oil technologies are analysed and expanded upon with a detailed breakdown on the Technological, Legal, Economic and Environmental aspects to help each country find the most suitable solution for them.
Used oil management technologies included in the analysis are: 1. Direct burning in controlled incineration; 2. Pyrolysis; 3. Mild processing followed by fuel blending or reuse; and 4. Activated clay treatment.
The report that presents the technologies and their respective economic, social, geographical, environmental and operational constraints, as well as case studies showcasing some of these options are available on SPREP's Virtual Library.
